How to Order With a Discover Card

The Internet has forever changed how we shop for items such as clothes and electronics, and most businesses now operate online and accept credit cards as payment options. 1)Look for the “Discover” logo or a statement that says “We accept all major credit cards,” which is usually found in the “FAQ” or “Help” section of a business’ website. Some businesses do not accept Discover credit cards. If the website does not have a list of credit card logos or if it does not specify which credit cards it accepts, assume all cards are accepted.

2)Place all items in the online shopping card, and click on the shopping cart icon to begin the ordering process.

3)Create an account if necessary. Some websites require you to create an account prior to completing your order, while the step is optional on other sites. The account creation process usually involves entering your basic information, such as your name and address.

4)Enter the billing address information in the appropriate box. The address information must match the information on your Discover card. If there are discrepancies, the transaction will not go through.

5)Enter the shipping address. The shipping address is the location where you want the item shipped. This information does not need to match the information on your Discover card. Many business’ websites have a box you can check if the billing and shipping addresses are the same.

6)Type in your Discover card information in the “Credit card” or “Payment” box. There is typically a drop-down menu for you to select which credit card you’re using. Select the “Discover” option. Continue entering the remaining information, such as your 16-digit Discover card number, the three-digit security code on the back and the expiration date on the bottom front of the card.

7)Click “Submit,” or “Complete” once you’ve entered the required information. If the transaction is successful, you will see a confirmation screen. Many websites will also email you a receipt. The transaction may not appear on your Discover account for one to five days.

Tips & Warnings

Make sure the merchant’s website is legitimate. There are a number of ways to ensure legitimacy, such as looking for a green “Https” in the address bar or looking for a padlock at the top or bottom of the browser. All secure sites should also feature a security certificate. If the website ends in anything other than “.com,” “.net” or “.org,” be wary. Many scammers use sites with “.info,” “.TV” and other uncommon domains.
