Instructions
)Apply for a Discover Card. Go to discovercard.com, choose the type of card you want and click the “Apply Now” button. Enter the requested information. Discover will notify you of its decision in approximately 60 seconds.
)Wait for your credit card. If Discover approves you, you will receive your new card by mail in approximately 10 to 15 business days. When you get your card, you will also receive detailed information about the terms of your account, including your annual percentage rate and your credit limit.
)Use your Discover Card to pay for your daily expenses. Only charge expenses that you can pay in full at the end of the month. Since you want to build credit, don’t carry a balance on the credit card. Make sure all of your monthly charges remain below your credit limit.
)Pay your bill in full. Discover Card will send you monthly billing statements. Although you can always make a minimum payment, pay the card balance in full every month. Pay attention to the due date. You should make all payments at least seven days before the due date to avoid any late fees.
)Call the Discover Card customer service phone number listed on the back of the credit card. Ask the customer service representative to raise your credit limit. Discover Card will normally raise credit discover card every six months as long as your account is in good standing. Repeat this step every six months. The higher your credit limit, the more the account will help build your credit.
